Add A Blog To Your Site
I have mentioned blogs in my other posts, so now I’m going to briefly tell you how to add a blog to your website, why you should add a blog and what the end results will be from having a blog.
I’m not going to explain all the different ways on how you can setup a blog and what blogs are available to you, I’m just going to assume you have cpanel access to your website and we will be working with wordpress which is a good free blogging software.
There are many good reasons why you should have a blog attached to your website, the main reason being, blogs produce traffic and if you receive targeted traffic you should be able to convert it with a few on page promotions/offers. You can also use blogs to build leads for your e-mail marketing campaigns by adding a pop-up subscription box or links within content, enticing them into subscribing. Blogging is also a good way to show off what you know about your niche, you can build a name/reputation for yourself/business just from blogging, you can also use blogs as a good way to share information about your business and what you offer.
If you submit your blog to feed sites, blog directories, social bookmarking sites ect you can build up a following of people which like your content and will happily link back to it from there site. Its quite easy now days to get inbound links to your blog posts as people have developed many different types of software which searches for content on blogs and displays it on there site, or shows excerpts from it.
I have actually seen software which copies the entire article and displays it on there blog, people do this to build up content on there site and try to steal the content before google finds it on yours. The good thing about this if any (as it is very shady copying peoples content and I strongly urge you not to do so) is if you add links in your content to other content on your site you will be building inbound links without knowing it.
Its very easy to setup a blog on your own website, and you can have it up and running within minutes depending on if you have access to cpanel i.e yourdomain.eu/cpanel. Most hosting companies allow you to have cpanel access to your websites cpanel, once you have logged into your cpanel look for an icon called “fantastico”, this should open in a new window and you will be given a list of scripts that are ready to be installed on your site. Look for wordpress on the left hand side, once you click “wordpress” you will need to fill out a few fields on the right hand side which shouldn’t take long. If you want to create the blog in a different directory/folder just fill in the appropriate field and it will automatically create it for you.
After installation you will be given links on how to login to your blog. Once you have logged in you will be able to customise the look and feel of your blog and add pages. Wordpress have made it very user friendly to add content, categories, links ect and is probably the most used blog software. If you visit the wordpress website you will be able to download loads of community based addons.
