How often you blog is entirely up to you but blogs can be used as a successful traffic generator for your main site. Google likes sites with allot of content so people used blogs as a quick way to build up content and produce traffic. Every site you visit has a blog attached to it, and most blogs are specific to one niche which helps them become an authority blog and get some recognition.
I strongly suggest blogging when you can, I try to write a new post everyday depending on if I can fit it into my schedule (sometimes last thing at night), but depending on your niche it might be hard to come up with content to write about. This blog mainly covers everything to do with website promoting and marketing but I also blog about the latest internet news or even the major local news to where our business is based.
A good piece of free blog software available is called wordpress, and comes free with most hosting companies. The thing I like about wordpress is the ability to easily install plugins and widgets to enhance your blog. There’s a good widget that allows you to show the social bookmarking buttons that allow users to easily rate your article and get more exposure. Blogging on a regular basis will definitely increase traffic to your website and produce inbound links from people linking to your articles.
With blogging you can target a large variety of keywords easily which makes blogs the ideal landing pages for some of your services or important articles, you can then add links to your articles to target your viewers and direct them to your products page. If you know about search engine optimization then its very easy to get on the first page of google for your search term, depending on how saturated your niche is. With basic promotion of your article you can have viewers coming to your site to read your article instantly.
If you have a new fresh story which hasn’t been covered on the internet yet then social bookmarking sites are the ideal place to promote your story, followed by free press releases. I like to submit my RSS feed to syndicate sites which always produces traffic and links. As long as you write good quality content once in awhile you’ll be able to turn your blog into a traffic generator. Sometimes your not in the mood to write long articles but try to at least hit 300 – 400 words, as google thinks pages with hardly any contents on has no importance and is probably spam.
