A serious website should already have a sitemap set up, if you haven’t then that’s fine as I am going to tell you about a free bit of software that is a xml google sitemap generator. This xml sitemap generator builds a full map of your website compliant with googles sitemap guidelines.
Google stats that a google friendly sitemap is one that is coded in a raw code called xml. You can create a nice looking sitemap in html but that would only have benefit to your users.
The xml sitemap generator I personally recommend is one called “site map builder .net” and can be found by search for that term in google. I don’t like linking to websites so I’m sorry but you will just have to go through google. The main reason why I don’t like linking to other sites unless they have a good reputation is because the sites you link to affect your reputation with google. To keep on top of all the site your linking to will take time as you have to check the reputation of the sites linking to them ect.
Anyway, its best to have a sitemap just for google as the googlebot looks for it when crawling and will make indexing your site easier and quicker. When I mean index you site I don’t necessarily mean index each page for the first time I mean its a good way for google to find your pages and index the new changes.
Once you have created you google friendly xml sitemap using the sitemap generator then you should upload it to the root of your site and submit it to googles webmaster tools.
