Has The Telephone Directory Died
Someone in one of the offices I visited today wanted to find a number for a local business and I saw her get out a telephone book, do people still use these?
Since the internet you can now use the search engines as a telephone book, google for example allows business owner to enter there contact details so they appear in the search engine results. I cant actually remember the last time I touched a phone book let alone opened one, the internet hold so much information that I would be very surprised if you cant find the contact number for a local business, even if the business doesn’t have a website there are hundreds of directories out there acting like a phone book so all you need to do is type the business name into google followed by “contact us” and you should find there details.
I told this young girl at the office to use google to find the number she’s looking for and she instantly found it, the internet is an easier way to find number than going through a phone book, unfortunately that means the phone books will probably die out in the near future or only issue phone books to people who subscribe to them.
As technology advances we lose a lot of what has helped us get to where we are today, the phone book is just another example of technology pushing out the foundations that made us who we are.
My kids wont even know what a phone book is soon, and it will be something you see on history sites.
