When running and promoting a small online business you need to set yourself goals so you can monitor the growth of your online website, and this will also motivate you to hit your targets and grow your website even more.
Being in the search engine optimization field I often come across markets that are still anyone’s game, so what I do is create and optimize a website to rank highly for that particular market.
The first goal I usually set myself with a new website is to try and attract 100 unique visitors a day. Attracting 100 visitors to a website in one day isn’t exactly hard but to maintain that type of traffic throughout the month will require some work. By the time you have attracted 100 unique visitors a day for a month you should have a steady continues supply of returning visitors whilst still getting new visitors.
Lets just focus on attracting 100 visitors over one day first and then you can repeat the process throughout the month and adapt it to your preferred style of promotion for your market. Each market has a different way to promote there site, link building will always be the same and have the same purposes but to be successful you should plan out a strategy on where to attract visitors from for your market. Most websites should have a blog and if you have a blog it will make building traffic a lot easier. My method on how to attract 100 people a day uses a blog as well as your main site so its a good idea to set up a blog and in a moment I will explain why.
Once you have your blog set up you want to start making a name for yourself as being someone who knows a lot about there market, write a few articles a day to start off with just so you can have some content on there and attract your first handful of visitors. Once you have enough content on your blog to keep your readers busy you can cut down to 1 article a day and promote each article you write. A good way to promote articles and to attract targeted traffic is from the social bookmarking sites, this is a good place to attract visitors who want to know more about your content and it is also a good way to build returning traffic. When I promote an article I will submit it to about 4 different social bookmarking sites, to make the process easier and quicker I have added the widgets for these social bookmarking sites at the bottom of all my posts, I also use a tool bar with a whole range of social bookmarking buttons so I can promote my article further if need be.
The second benefit from social bookmarking sites is they get crawled a lot which means your new article will get indexed quicker and you can start receive small amount of targeted traffic from google. When your website starts to get a reputation with google each article you promote will rank higher depending on how popular that particular topic/keyword is.
Another way to build targeted traffic streams is to get links from relevant sites and relevant niches, we offer a relevant link building service where your link will be displayed within the main content of a site but if you don’t know how to do that you can focus on building links from other blogs in your market. Building links from blogs will help increase traffic, try to find a blog with similar content and leave friendly comments, if you read an article that you know quite a lot about maybe you can add to the conversation with a link in your comment to one of your pages that has more detailed information. Mos blogs allow you to add a link into your author name for that comment which people still click through which means you will receive more targeted traffic.
Also consider signing up to a few forums and getting involved with the conversations on there and start adding links in your signatures, this is a great seo link building tip but is also another way to build targeted traffic.
There are many ways to build traffic you just need to find them and by setting targets this will motivate you to try different types of promotion.
