Your website has to be established for say 7 months before you can start predicting your sales, sites that are older will hold more data and making sales predictions will be much easier and accurate.

Being in the search engine optimization and link building field we deal with a lot of website owners on a day to day basis, we make it clear that if they have any questions regarding seo or link building to contact us as we will more than happy to explain what they need to know.

Lastnight before heading of to my pit to get some much needed sleep I was asked if I could write a post on how to predict future sales so people can start to get an idea of future income.

So here’s my post:

To predict sales you need to know two things, one how many people are visiting your site on a monthly basis and the second is how many sales you currently make each month. For example lets say you have a new site and you’re taking about 2,000 unique visitors a month, and producing around 10 sales per month. This tells you that from every 2,000 unique visitors your conversion rate is 0.5%. It all depends on your niche and where you get your traffic from.

So we now know a rough conversion which you can use to work out how many sales you get in the future if you focus on increasing traffic. As your site expands you can recalculate this percentage at any time, over time you can build a graph or use this data to show your expenditure. With the current example we know that if we double our traffic from 2,000 to 4,000 our sales/conversion should go up from 0.5% to 1%.

If you focus on search engine optimization you will get targeted traffic from the major search engines like google, this is good to help increase sales and conversion rates. You can also focus on building relevant links which again produce good quality targeted traffic which will convert.

Some niches have higher conversions than others, it just depends how popular it is and where you rank for your chosen keyterms.
